The Magliabechiana Library was built at the behest of the librarian of Grand Duke Cosimo III who, upon his death in 1714, bequeathed his collection of 30,000 volumes and a substantial sum for the new construction.</p>
<p>Built in the area of the ancient theatre known as the Teatrino di Baldracca or the Teatrino della Dogana, designed by Marni and Comparini, the building was completed under the direction of Foggini in 1727 then inaugurated in 1747.

The intervention

The restoration works consisted in the restoration of the original layout of the rooms in the Magliabechi environments and the restoration of the imposing consultation room. The old wooden shelves, the balcony and the large coffered ceiling have been carefully restored.
